Photonic crystal fibres for monitoring the onset of corrosion in reinforced concrete structures

Abstract

In this study, a fibre optic sensing system, based on the response of a polarization-maintaining fibre to changes in pressure along the length of the fibre, has been designed to enable the immediate detection of steel corrosion in reinforced concrete.
