Abstract
The adaptive x-ray optics program at Lawrence Livermore has three main areas of research. With Northrop Grumman Xinetics, we are building a 45-actuator, 45-cm long, super-polished single-crystal silicon x-ray DM. We have developed wave optics simulation tools for beam lines and used them in concert with theoretical analysis to uncover important performance limitations of x-ray elements. For hard x ray beam lines, the Talbot effect will cause phase-amplitude mixing and limit the ability of an x-ray DM to phase-conjugate errors. The common Hartmann sensor is highly susceptible to aliasing, which corrupts the phase measurements.
