Abstract

Monoclinic 1.25 at.% Yb3+:MgWO4 crystals are grown by the Top-Seeded-Solution-Growth method and their room- and low-temperature spectroscopy is studied. A diode-pumped Yb3+:MgWO4 laser generates 18.2 W at ~1056 nm with a slope efficiency of ~89%.
