Role of refractive index mismatch in backward nonlinear optical imaging

Abstract

Epi nonlinear optical imaging is used to image subresolution features. We find a refractive index mismatch between background medium and object affects imaging significantly. We study second harmonic generation microscopy of collagen fibrils as example.
