Abstract

With the advent of laser designators in airborne equipment such as helicopters and high performance aircraft as well as ground-based vehicles, the method of achieving laser to sensor line-of-sight (LOS) boresight has become a major design task. The LOS boresight of a laser designator to a sensor such as a TV or thermal imaging receiver is critical to total system performance. A typical LOS boresight requirement of <100μrad can be achieved by several methods: (1) maintaining tight tolerances at assembly: (2) manual operator adjustment; and (3) being fully automatic.
