Abstract

The Ar-ion and Nd:YAG lasers are now used in medicine mainly for their thermal effects. They have cw emission of up to 10 W for Ar-ion and 100 W for Nd:YAG. The beam is transmitted via an optical fiber. The two lasers are complementary as their wavelengths are differently absorbed by the tissue.
