Abstract

Several years ago, Pinnow and others at Hughes Research Laboratories reported the conception and development of a programmable electrooptic tunable filter (EOTF).1-3 Two significant features of the EOTF that set it apart from its more limited predecessor, the acoustooptic tunable filter,4 were em-phasized: (1) its very low electric power consumption and (2) its versatility of passband programming. More recently, extensive tests and demonstrations of passband synthesis have been carried out. We shall report some of these filter programming results and show their striking agreement with theory.
