High power absorption in index-matching fluids

Abstract

Many of the laser fusion experimental programs are now being directed toward shorter wavelengths as a means of overcoming plasma interaction problems that have been encountered. One method of generating shorter wavelengths with existing high power laser systems is to place nonlinear crystals in the output beams of these lasers. Under the proper phase-matching conditions, it is possible to generate 2ω, 3ω, or 4ω light with 60-80 % conversion efficiency.
