Abstract
If ICF is to become a viable source of energy, the laser, ion, or e-beam driver technology must be improved by many orders of magnitude in terms of energy, repetition rate, and efficiency, in addition, the reliability of a reactor driver must yield reasonable duty factors and system lifetime. The chemically pumped iodine laser (CPIL) is one of the most promising ICF driver candidates. We will evaluate the characteristics of a reactor size CPIL system, with emphasis on the total system efficiency.
