Abstract

The XeF(CA) laser has been demonstrated using photolytic, e-beam, and discharge pumping. The photolytic scheme, based on electron beam excitation of high pressure xenon to produce Xe2* radiation at 172 nm, which photodissociates XeF2 in a separate cell to produce XeF*, leads to continuously tunable laser action over at least the 455-525-nm range and offers the prospect of a scalable efficient blue-green laser.
