Abstract
Optical recording media are described which provide a carrier to noise ratio exceeding 55 dB, recorded using only 4-mW incident power at 10 MHz, yet exhibiting archival stability. In these media, refractory materials form the top layer of trilayer absorbing structures. Upon exposure to highly focused laser beams, bubbles or protuberances are formed, as the top layer bulges due to gas pressure from beneath.
