Abstract

High-power (>25-W) CO2 waveguide lasers for military-type environments impose a number of harsh and competing requirements on the laser design. For the particular laser discussed here, the key design requirements were, in approximate order of importance, (1) small size; (2) high cw and modulated peak power; (3) limited input power; (4) ruggedness; (5) high EMI/RFI integrity; and (6) long shelf-life.
