Abstract
The presence of broadband background absorption in electron-beam-excited gas mixtures is well known in excimer lasers. This absorption often competes with any gain that may be present and seriously reduces laser extraction efficiencies. However, there are few experimental studies1 characterizing this absorption and attempting to identify its origin.
