Abstract

The nonlinear refractive index leads to intensity- dependent phase perturbations such as whole-beam self-focusing and beam breakup. These processes ultimately limit the allowed peak fluence in short- pulsed high-energy lasers. Therefore, to design and work with such systems, one must know n2 for each optical element in the system.
