Solid-state lasers have the following excellent properties for use as light sources in high-performance optical transmission systems: mode purity; wavelength stability; and narrow spectrum width. Recently we have fabricated GaAIAs-laser (LD)- pumped miniature solid-state lasers using Nd stoichiometric crystal LiNdP4O12 (LNP),1 These lasers exhibited stable pure single-mode operations, both longitudinally and transversely. This paper presents a high-bit-rate 1.3-μm transmitter module composed of an LNP laser oscillator, a YIG isolator, and a LiNbO3 directional coupler-type modulator.
