Abstract

Growing interest in cw high-power atomic iodine (I*) lasers has generated a requirement for a compact cw I* laser that can be used as a diagnostic probe or as a test bed for developing applications such as direct solar-pumped power transmission systems. To this end, a novel cw photodissociation I * laser has been designed, tested, and used to determine several critical parameters in scaling I* lasers to useful output power.
