The measurement of fluorine atom concentration is of great importance in understanding and predicting the performances of HF/DF chemical lasers. In situ measurements of F-atom concentration in the presence of F2 are required. Ganguli and Kaufman1 have suggested the reaction F + Cl2 → CIF + Cl, and more recently Ultee and Bonczyk2 have described a method based on the reaction F + HCI → HF + Cl to determine F-atom concentration. This work describes a method of quantitative measurement of fluorine atom concentration in an HF/DF combustion driven chemical laser medium.
