Abstract

Recent experiments1,2 have demonstrated the stimulated Cerenkov interaction as a possible means to achieve bunching of a relativistic electron beam at optical wavelengths by using a laser beam to momentum modulate the electrons in a phase-matching medium such as a gas. The bunched electron beam then emits coherent Cerenkov radiation at the harmonics of the laser frequency.3
