Abstract

Structural aspects of H2-air turbulent jet diffusion flames (consisting of a central jet of fuel surrounded by a co-flowing stream of air) have been measured by pulsed Raman spectroscopy. This experimental technique is particularly useful for laboratory-scale turbulent combustion studies of hydrogen flames because it provides simultaneous time-resolved (~2 µsec) and space-resolved (~0.1-mm3) measurements of temperature and all major flame species (H2O2,N2,H2O) simultaneously, without appreciably perturbing the flame.
