Abstract

Photodetectors are required in most integrated optics applications, and the integration technology of photodetectors into the planar waveguide circuit is particularly important. Silicon is a promising substrate for integrated optics, because photodetectors are easily integrated into it.1,2 However, silicon is not piezoelectric. LiNbO3 is also a promising material for integrated optics because of its excellent performance in acoustooptic interactions and electrooptic effects. End-fire coupling of CCD arrays to the LiNbO3 waveguide has been reported.3
