Abstract

The advantages of tunable SJV cw dye-laser radiation can best be extended to the UV range by frequency doubling the dye-laser output in an angle-tuned crystal such as KDP. The high peak powers provided by a synchronously mode-locked dye-laser system improve the efficiencies of such nonlinear processes, but UV power in excess of several milliwatts is difficult to achieve with conventional systems. However, by increasing the mode-locking frequency of such a dye-laser system by a factor of 3, we obtain higher peak powers and greatly improved frequency-doubling efficiency.
