Abstract

This paper reviews The state of the art for plastic components for optical communication systems in Japan. Cost and productivity are important problems for the extensive development of optical transmission systems. Plastic components have a high potential to solve these problems. Here optical circuits, connectors, and fibers, which are almost ready to put to practical use, are discussed.
