Abstract

The recombination reaction of HBr (X21/2+) Br(42P3/2)+ M → HgBr2(X) + M is of great practical importance because of its role in the regeneration of the lasing medium in the blue-green HgBr2/HgBr laser. Experimental evidence suggests that this recombination may occur with high probability, although no direct measurement of the rate coefficient has previously been reported. We have undertaken a kinetic study of this reaction and will present the results of this study.
