Abstract

The majority of photoionization experiments to date have neglected the study of low-volatility molecules dealing primarily with atomic species. Previous studies of high-temperature molecular vapors (such as Til) using a molecular beam apparatus and VUV synchrotron radiation1 yielded only relative photoionization efficiency curves. A novel technique,2 which employs a microwave bridge and an excimer laser optical source, has been used to examine the photoionization of Til and Inl vapors at 193 nm. This approach allows for measurement of the absolute photoionization cross sections and the observation of the time behavior of the photoelectron density.
