Abstract
Lasers have been used to reanastomose divided arteries, veins, fallopian tubes, vas deferens, uterine horns, and nerves and to close skin and cornea. This paper describes a new surgical technique that utilizes laser heat energy to repair transected rat sciatic nerves. The energy emitted at 10.6 μm is used to thermally denature tissue components for use as a biological glue.
