Abstract

Further advancement of inertial confinement fusion research will depend on a variety of experiments which will demonstrate high-density symmetric implosion and ignition of fusion fuel. For this purpose, we need a reliable high-energy, high-power laser which is compatible with various experiments using different types of target. The Gekko XII system is a 12-beam glass laser designed to deliver an output energy of 20 kJ at a pulse width of 1 nsec and a peak power of 40 TW at 0.1 nsec at the laser wavelength of 1.053 μm.
