Measurement of two-photon-induced solarization in BK3, BK7, and BK10 at 532 nm

Abstract

Borosilicate glasses are widely used in optical components throughout the visible spectrum and beyond. For low-intensity applications they are quite transparent, but in the presence of highly intense (GW/cm2) UV laser beams they solarize.1 We have found that they also solarize when irradiated by intense visible beams.2 This is an important consideration in the design of high-intensity highrepetition-rate short-wavelength lasers.
