Hg:LiNbO3-efficient intracavity frequency doubler for acoustooptic Q-switched Nd:YAG lasers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We describe efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) with MgO-doped lithium niobate (Mg: LiNbO3). Lithium niobate crystals are useful for nonlinear optical materials. For SHG of the 1.064-μm Nd:YAG laser the phase matching temperature of the undoped LiNbO3 crystal grown from a congruent melt is as low as the room temperature, ~10-10°C. Thus it is difficult to control the phase matching temperature and to make use of it. To increase the phase matching temperature, LiNbO3 crystals doped with 1.0-mole % MgO were grown in congruent melt, and their intracavity frequency-doubling effect was investigated.
