Abstract

Optical emissions from excitation of small aerosols by excimer laser photons in the UV region are investigated. The aerosols are produced from reactions of O3 with various hydrocarbons, such as 1-butene, 1,3-butadiene, trans- and cis-2-butenes, propylene, and ethylene in a flow tube, which is made of a PVC pipe of 5-cm i.d. and 100 cm long. The aerosol sizes produced in the few tube are mostly in the few hundred angstrom range.
