Abstract
In Investigations of multiphoton dissociation with pulsed-infrared lasers, considerations of window damage often lead to the need to carry out experiments in reaction cells in which a converging beam of large diameter enters the cell at the entrance window, reaches a focus within the cell, and then diverges again before reaching the exit window. Although this arrangement is conceptually simple and easy to realize in practice, it gives rise to a number of problems:
