Optical turbulence in a phase conjugate resonator

Abstract

Investigation of the phase conjugate resonator used for optical data processing applications shows that in some conditions the output of the resonator has an irregular spatial and temporal structure. As shown in Fig. 1, this resonator consists of a crystal of BaTiO3 in a configuration similar to that used by others previously.1-3 Degenerate four-wave mixing in the BaTiO3 produces both the conjugation and the gain for operation of the resonator. The resonator is pumped by a single-longitudinal-mode Ar-ion laser operating at 5145 Å.
