Abstract

A molded plastic lens has numerous advantages in its lightweight, cost effectiveness, and mass producibility. Such a lens is well suited for use in optical pickup systems such as that used with the Compact Disc and the Video Disc on which much recent research has been focused. Sony and the Konishiroku Photo Industry have been working jointly to develop an aspherical plastic objective lens. This paper reports on the optical performance of this lens.
