Abstract
Active-mirror amplifiers are of interest in the realization of the kilowatt level and beyond high-average-power solid-state laser systems.1 Such amplifiers, developed previously for single-shot operation with the Omega laser system at Rochester (Laboratory for Laser Energetics),2,3 have been shown4 capable of attaining repetition rates in excess of 1 Hz and are scalable to large diameters and, therefore, average powers. For radially uniform and axially nonuniform temperature profiles, birefringence is absent in this device for any angle of incidence.4,5
