Abstract
Recent advances in fiber-optic technology have allowed use of laser velocimetry and holography incorporating fiber-optic components. These new techniques are more versatile and more easily applied than their conventional counterparts, but it is essential that the fundamental limitations of the optical fibers used are understood. On such basic considerations lie the reliability and integrity of the large range of applications.
