Abstract
The optical klystron (OK)1 is a higher-gain laser than the conventional FEL2 However, the same mechanism which permits the higher small signal gain also limits the saturation intensity.3 This comes about because the bunching action of the dispersive magnet which contributes to higher gain also reduces the saturation intensity due to debunching of the electrons at higher power.
