Abstract
The purpose of this work is to provide the designer of the radio-frequency CO2 waveguide laser with a reliable tool to predict the performance of the device in realistic conditions of operation. For the first time, a fully 2-D analysis of a rf-excited rectangular bore waveguide laser (Fig. 1) is presented. The temperature distribution, from which the small-signal gain and saturation flux are critically sensitive, is computed in the laser bore allowing for the temperature dependence of the molecular heat conductivity coefficient of the laser mixture.
