Abstract
Excimer laser ablation is currently under intense investigation as, a technique for etching and patterning of a wide range of materials including metals, semiconductors, insulators, organic polymers, and biological tissue. During ablation of these solids a plume of gas-phase material is produced which expands rapidly away from the etched surface.
