Abstract
Photorefractive crystals are widely investigated for applications to optical signal processing, and an interesting material is Bi12SiO20 (BSO) on account of its speed at low incident pump beam intensity. In that crystal the photorefractive effect may be increased if the frequency of one beam is slightly shifted, i.e., moving the grating recording mode with an applied electric field E0. From recently published theories,1,2 it is shown that there is a resonance effect which at the optimum grating velocity and spacing makes the space charge field higher.
