Abstract
Optical fibers have been successfully employed as Raman oscillators in the visible and IR regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.1 Recently, by means of newly developed silica multimode fibers, these techniques have been extended to the UV.2 Using an excimer laser as the pump, high-power densities can be coupled into the fiber producing a single-pass amplification with substantial frequency conversion of the laser Intensity to Raman Stokes shifted Tines.
