Abstract

Development of high-peak-power Nd laser devices operating in the 1.3-μm region is o1 interest for medical, communication, and scientific applications. Water absorption is moderate (1-2 cm−1), which is useful for certain laser surgery procedures. Optical fiber transmission ~1.3 μm is excellent, and with harmonic generation red, blue, and UV laser lines can be generated efficiently.
