Abstract
Laser surgical application has undergone very rapid growth with hundreds of procedures performed last year. There has been a deployment of safe reliable effective instruments in most major hospitals with smaller units beginning to appear in some clinics and group practices. In almost all specialties, however, limitations are becoming evident Further advances will occur by linking therapeutic modalities with newer diagnostic technology such as ultrasound, video-endoscopy, NMR imaging, CT scanning, and new developments in fiber optics.
