Abstract

Selective damage to port-wine stains by means of laser light implies the coagulation of cutaneous blood vessels without damage to other tissue, The selectivity criteria involve (1) the choice of an adequate wavelength (based on the absorption spectrum of pigments, melanosomes, and blood vessels), (2) the calculation of an adequate exposure time, and (3) the calculation of an optimal beam fluence.
