Temperature measurements in a coal-fired flame using coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy

Abstract

Nonintrusive measurement techniques are required to obtain data on temperature and species concentrations in multiphase reacting flows, such as coal-fired flames, where conventionai intrusive techniques often cannot be used successfully. One such technique is coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (GARS), which has been applied to measure gas temperature and major species concentrations in a variety of luminous combustion environments.1 To date, CARS has been employed principally in single-phase and sooting flames; very little information is available on applications involving large particle-laden flows. In this experiment, collinear CARS spectra of N2 were acquired successfully in a coal-fired flame.
