Abstract
Recent improvements in high-power laser diode arrays have caused renewed interest in the use of these devices as pump sources for solid-state lasers.1,2 Dramatic improvements in device efficiency, lifetime, instrument size, amplitude noise, and other performance characteristics have Been demonstrated in our laboratory. Application of these sources to a wide range of scientific and commercial problems is imminent.
