Abstract

Pulsed X rays provide a very attractive source of preionization in high-pressure discharge lasers such as multiatmosphere CO2 lasers or large-scale rare-gas/halide lasers. Existing x-ray guns operate, however, in high vacuum and thus are expensive and bulky.
