Abstract
The Co: MgF2 laser is an attractive continuously tunable source for the mid-IR. However, to date liquid nitrogen1 or thermoelectric2 cooling was required for efficient operation. We report the first room-temperature pulsed normal-mode operation of Co: MgF2, At a 10-Hz pulse repetition rate (prr), continuous tuning from 1.8 to 2.5 μm with pulse energies up to 51 mJ and 50% slope efficiency was obtained.
