Abstract

We report a stable near-lR color-center laser based on the N2 defect in pure KCI. The laser tunes from 1.24 to 1.33 µm and uses the convenient 1.06-µm Nd:YAG laser as a pump. The N2 color center is thought to be an F-center neutral aggregate, having either an F4 tetrahedral1,2 or an F3 trigonal configuration3,4; experimental data have not conclusively confirmed either of these models.
