Abstract

Photorefractive spatial light modulation based on Doppler-enhanced two-beam coupling in bismuth silicon oxide crystals (Bi12SiO20, or BSO) is demonstrated and analyzed. It Is shown that compared to the results for incoherent-to-coherent conversion in the conventional diffraction configuration,1 the uniform erasure is less efficient in the case of two-beam coupling. However, utilizing polarization properties of BSO crystals improves the allowable dynamic range of this process, making such a configuration attractive both for its performance and its simplicity.
