Pressure-induced two-wave mixing gain in sodium vapor

Abstract

Nonlinear optical interactions provide a means for affecting cleanup of laser beams with aberrated wavefronts. In particular, transfer of energy is also possible from an aberrated pump beam to a clean probe beam. Recent theoretical work 1,2 has shown that a two-wave mixing interaction with gain can occur in pressure-broadened atomic vapor. Such resonant media offer the advantage of fast response time in contrast to photorefractive materials.
