Abstract
We have begun experiments to investigate the performance and kinetics channels of the xenon laser operating on transitions of the 5d-6p manifold in an argon diluent in different pumping conditions. Results in the literature indicate that efficiencies of >3% and specific energies of 6 J/liter are achievable when the laser is operated in an electron-beam controlled discharge.1 Under electron-beam preionized or UV preionized discharge pumping, efficiencies of 1.3-1.5% and specific energies of <1 J/liter have been reported.2,3
